POLITENESS STRATEGIES USED BY THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES OF INDONESIA IN THE 2019 PRESIDENTIAL DEBATES

Presidential debate is one of an interesting examples to be analyzed in terms politeness strategies. This research the strategies used by presidential candidates Indonesia a program during election period 2019. employed qualitative descriptive. The data were form spoken utterances which collected from participants. sources this videos and transcripts second fourth debates taken youtube google. using condensation, displayed, drawing verifying conclusion. results showed that several types realizations politeness. There four found debates; they Bald-On Record, Positive Politeness, Negative Off Record. In strategies, there 30 sub-strategies realized 33 debate. Politeness was as dominant strategy since wanted omit any gaps, give good sense, choose words selectively convey their campaign.
